In 2013, a Cambridge University researcher Aleksandr Kogan created a personality quiz app (thisisyourdigitallife) by which he gathered information about nearly 300000 people and because of the Facebook Privacy Norms in 2013, they got information about their friends without actual permission from them.

Later Facebook enhances their Privacy policy and strengthens the rules that will protect users personal information from misuse.
Later Facebook banned Kogan's App from its platform but Kogan sold that Data to Cambridge Analytica and Facebook send notice to both the company to delete the data gathered on Facebook. Both the company certified that they deleted the data collected on Facebook.

Kogan's breached the trust of people by providing their data to Cambridge Analytica but Facebook was the main source for the collection of personal data of users that's why they were termed as the culprit for trust breach.

Facebook increases their privacy security but recent sources say that despite knowing of breach they didn't disclose but apologize after The Guardian and New York Times opens up the breach to the people.
