Inequality in India || Types and Details ||

India gained its Independence in 1947 and adopted its constitution on 26th Jan 1950, our constitution reads "Article 15 (1) and (2) prohibit the state from discriminating any citizen on the ground of any religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them". Instead of the law, there is still discrimination alive in this country. People everyday face discrimination whether it is direct or indirect. Equality is important because it protects the dignity of an individual. Several groups still practice discrimination in this country and to the shock educated people also involved in this. I do not mean to defame my country but the truth should be spoken, I don't know about any other country but in India, we surely practice discrimination everytime and every day. To understand the situation you have to read this article to the last and read the details regarding discrimination in India.

TYPES OF INEQUALITY

1.On the basis of RELIGION

All Religions are Equal

This is one of the favorites types of discrimination by Indians, yes seriously, We almost every time classify a person on the basis of Religion. India has many religions including Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Christianity, Jainism, Buddhism etc. Several fights between the people because of religion occur from time to time. Ironically, no religion preaches human to fight another human or defame other religion. Because of self-profit some organization whitewash peoples brain and let them stand in front of each other, Organization maybe political or business oriented.
Indian Law - Article 25 says "all persons are equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right to freely profess, practice, and propagate religion subject to public order, morality, and health."

2. On the basis of CASTE

In India, there is a division of people in order of caste, let me explain with the help of an example. In Hinduism(Religion) people are classified as "Varna". Varna later divided into 4 parts.
1. Bhramins  2. Kshatriya  3. Vaishya  4. Shudra
Bhramins- They are the peoples who worship God and preaches others about God, they are termed as the purest.
Kshatriya- They are the peoples who were kings or protect their nation by fighting(warriors), their main task is to rule and protects his kingdom.
Vaishya- People who do business are termed as Vaishya.
Shudra- These people work as slaves for kings or people and are the lowest form.

Still today people use these terms to define themselves or discriminate within the society. Our law protects people from Schedule class and tribes to gives them more opportunity to establish themselves in society.

3. UNTOUCHABILITY

Shudras were termed as the lowest form and therefore the impurest form, in several villages people avoid touching these people and these people were discriminated, they were not allowed to sit with other people, not allowed to drink water from well used by other villagers. They are not allowed to go to temples and cannot sit with other people. Still today, many village practices this and the shocking fact is that educated peoples also promote this.

4. GENDER DISCRIMINATION

People started to understand the importance of equality and that's why it is improving but the gender-biased system is still out there. Several errands and works are classified and allocated to the specific gender. Women should take care of the children and home and Man should go out and earn money and work, these are some example of gender discrimination.
It mainly affects the Females of the society as many restrictions were applied to them in comparison to Males.

5. CLASS INEQUALITY

You can see the difference between the income of some people with respect to the majority of the nation.
Some people are billionaires and some still deprived of food, shelter, and clothing. You can check my other post about Poverty in India you will see the difference between the Class.
These differences in income result in inequality between society.

6. DISCRIMINATION in Ethnicity, descent & linguistic identity

  • Northeast Indian individual discriminated because of their looks and termed as Chinese or Nepalese or foreigners. Several made name or nicknames were allocated to them that are offensive.
  • Bihari was termed as villagers and illiterate because of there weak English speaking skills.
  • Kashmiri students were always investigated and doubted for terrorism or anti-national activities.

 7. Discrimination in Marital Status

These are some types of Inequality and discrimination in India, I hope in the coming future it vanishes and we should get an environment as described in the Law. If you like this post, do not forget to subscribe and share with your friends or followers.
