The recent death of a tourist named John Allen Chau an American national was killed by a protected tribe named Sentinelese during entering into restricted island protected by Government of India.
Sentinelese Tribe members shot him from 350ft yards right after he tried to enter their island. Andaman & Nicobar comprises around 300 islands and is known for its palm-lined, white sand beaches, mangroves, and tropical rainforests. Several Laws were made to protect these types of tribes that selected to live without modernization.


Who are Sentinelese people?

Sentinelese Tribe is a tribe residing at North Sentinel Islands of Andaman and Nicobar Island, according to the 2011 census their population is estimated around 14-50 members. According to a recent counting it is estimated that there are 150 members of the tribe, They opted to live without the interference of the outer world. They are hunter and gatherers mainly survive on supplements from wild forests and fishes. They use arrows and javelin as there primary weapons and guard their territory.

Rules & Regulations :

1) North Sentinelese Island, home of the protected Sentinelese tribe, is out of bounds for tourists, including government officials, unless they have special permission.
2) All Islands in the Union Territory are "restricted zones" for foreigners.
3) Foreigners have to obtain a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to visit.
4) RAP is not a license to visit protected zones such as North Sentinelese or any of this kind of Islands.
5) Tourists, both Indian and Foreign are bound by the rules of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Tourism Trade Regulation 2017, which covers all Islands.
6) Permit for foreigners to visit the Union Territory is limited to 30 days with a 15 days extension can be granted by Superintendent of Police, Port Blair.
7) The permit can be obtained either from Indian Embassies abroad or Foreigners Registration Offices in major metros.
8) Foreign Diplomats and members of the United Nations holding diplomatic visa or passport require approval from the Union External Affairs Ministry.
9) Citizens of Afganistan, China and Pakistan need permission from the Union Home Ministry to visit Andamans.
